Blue Railroad Train

"Kick-Ass Bluegrass" (USA - France)

Combine an American veteran bluegrass player and four top French musicians who all share a common passion for traditional bluegrass and country music -- with the accent on that bluesy, high-lonesome sound – and you get Blue Railroad Train. The repertoire is delightfully unpredictable and includes bluegrass and old-time classics as well as country, swing, and even rock ‘n roll tunes. They also have several original songs and instrumentals, all firmly rooted in the tradition.

Blue Railroad Train has an international reputation, having appeared at such venues as:

Holland - The European World of Bluegrass, Voorthuizen.

Ireland - Guinness International Bluegrass Festival, Dunmore East.

Northern Ireland - The Appalachian and Bluegrass Music Festival, Omagh.

Switzerland - The Over Easy Festival, Schaffhausen, The Family Festival, Stetten.

This is a band that plays and sings with an energy that gets an immediate reaction from the audience. In five minutes, they had them out of their seats and dancing in the aisles.
Franz Elsener, Over Easy Festival

USA - IBMA World of Bluegrass, Nashville, Tennessee. Missouri Southern State University, Joplin, Missouri. The Parlor, Shawnee, Kansas. The Oklahoma International Bluegrass Festival, Guthrie, Oklahoma.
There is a certain hard-driving bluegrass sound that just won't let you sit still. Call it "Kick-Ass Bluegrass". Often at a Blue Railroad Train concert, audience members will spontaneously get up and dance. For this band, that's what bluegrass is all about: energy, entertainment, and fun!

James Field James’s career in bluegrass began when he was a member of the New York City Ramblers along with David Grisman. (Vanguard CD, Bluegrass Breakdown) He then joined the Charles River Valley Boys in Boston, who became noted for their iconoclastic album, Beatle Country. (Reissue CD, Rounder Records.)

Thierry Lecocq (vocals, mandolin and fiddle). Thierry is accomplished on several instruments and in many different musical genres. He has toured extensively throughout Europe, in the US, Africa, and Asia. He has recorded four CDs with the group Station and a solo album, Push.

Philippe Perrard (vocals, lead guitar). Philippe first picked up a guitar some 25 years ago. He has since become one of the best-known flatpickers in Europe with an immediately recognizable style. He competes regularly in prestigious flatpicking contests in the USA, where he has been a prize-winner.

Jean-Marie Redon (vocals, banjo) Jean-Marie’s reputation is international. He is included in the American book, Masters of the Five-String Banjo, and SPBGMA, the American professional society, recognized his career with an award. He has recorded three solo CDs as well as with Pierre Bensusan, Marcel Dadi, and Jean-Felix Lalanne.

Sharon Lombardi (vocals, bass) Sharon is equally at home playing bluegrass, old-time, and the blues. She has been a member of the Cabs and Twenty-One. She plays bass in the Mox Gowland Blues Quartet and accompanies American country artist Sharon Cort.
